Vision & Priorities

A Vision Rooted in Progress

Jim Heigl doesn’t just want to maintain what’s already been done—he wants to build on it. His vision for Sylacauga is bold yet grounded, forward-thinking yet practical. After years of hands-on leadership, Jim knows what our city needs—and he’s focused on continuing to move us forward with purpose, planning, and people at the center of it all.

Stronger Infrastructure, Smarter Investments

Jim has always believed that a city’s foundation—its roads, bridges, and drainage systems—deserve just as much attention as any other initiative. That’s why one of his top priorities for the next term is to finish what’s been started and plan for the future. That means more road improvements, expanded drainage upgrades, and strategic investments that make our infrastructure stronger, safer, and more resilient.

Jim understands that proactive planning saves time, money, and stress in the long run. He’s committed to mitigating issues before they become emergencies—shifting Sylacauga from a reactive city to a proactive one.

A City That Works Together

City government should operate like any well-functioning system—each branch playing its role, respecting the others, and working together to serve the people. Much like our federal government, where the executive, legislative, and judicial branches are designed to balance each other, city government depends on cooperation between the Mayor’s office and the City Council to move Sylacauga forward, but lately, that balance has been tested.

In recent years, challenges within the City Council have caused unnecessary tension and slowed progress. While some have used their positions to push personal agendas or create division, Mayor Jim Heigl has remained focused on what matters most: getting the job done for the people of Sylacauga.

Jim understands that the Mayor serves as the city’s chief executive—charged with day-to-day leadership, implementation of policies, and protecting the long-term interests of the city. Council members, like legislators, are elected to help shape those policies through collaboration and oversight—not obstruction.

As Sylacauga potentially faces a complete shift in council leadership, Jim’s steady hand and deep understanding of how government is supposed to work will be more important than ever. While councils may change, the city deserves a Mayor who brings stability, experience, and a commitment to rising above politics to serve every citizen.

Jim is ready to work with any council—but more importantly, he’s ready to lead with integrity, just as he always has.

Better Communication with Residents

Too often, residents are left in the dark about city operations or unsure of who to contact when they have concerns. Jim wants to improve how information is shared with the public—through better tools, updated resources, and clearer lines of communication.

Whether it’s keeping people updated on street projects, city services, or emergency situations, Jim believes every resident should feel informed and empowered. He’s working toward a city where citizens are heard, questions are answered, and information is accessible.

Economic Growth That Benefits Everyone

Jim knows that a thriving city needs a strong, diverse economy. That’s why he's focused on attracting sustainable, clean industries and supporting local businesses—creating more opportunities and jobs for Sylacauga families.

But economic growth isn't just about business; it’s also about investing in quality-of-life projects that make people want to live, work, and stay here. From parks and green spaces to public safety and schools, Jim’s vision is to grow Sylacauga in a way that benefits everyone.

A Safe, Sustainable, and Family-Friendly Future

Jim is passionate about creating a city that works for people of all ages. He’s focused on improving public safety, enhancing recreational opportunities, and supporting programs that make Sylacauga a great place to raise a family.

He also believes in protecting what makes our community special—from our natural resources to our historic charm. That’s why he supports policies that promote sustainability and long-term planning—so Sylacauga remains strong and vibrant for generations to come.

Let’s Keep Moving Forward

Jim Heigl doesn’t just have a plan—he has the experience to make that plan a reality. While others may be learning the ropes, Jim is already leading with knowledge, relationships, and results.

With your continued support, he’s ready to finish the work we’ve started and launch the next chapter of Sylacauga’s success. Because when we work together, we don’t just make progress—we build a legacy.

“Local government, like any successful system, depends on balance. Just as our federal government separates powers between branches, our city needs cooperation between the Mayor and Council to truly serve the people. I’ve always believed the Mayor’s role is to provide steady leadership—especially when things get turbulent. No matter who sits on the Council, my job is to stay focused, keep Sylacauga moving forward, and make decisions based on what’s best for our community—not politics.”
